Susan Brewer, the Daughters of the American Revolution Saratoga Chapter presenting speaker along with Tim & Heather Mabee, examines the harrowing “Tribulations of Jane Campbell” during the Cherry Valley Massacre.
The Women’s Perspective:
Anne Clothier provides insight into the experiences of Royalist women following Burgoyne’s campaign.
The Naval Defense:
James L. Nelson, Old Saratoga Historical Association presenting speaker, recounts Benedict Arnold’s heroic leadership of a “rag-tag fleet” during the pivotal Battle of Valcour Island.
The Local Struggle:
James Richmond, Sons of the American Revolution presenting speaker uncovers the founding of communities amidst the “War on the Middleline.”
A Frontier Tragedy:
Paul Staiti, the Friends of the Marshall House presenting speaker, delves into the haunting story of Jane McCrea.

Join the Old Saratoga Historical Association for a presentation by Patrick Niles, retired history teacher, marking the 250th anniversary of Henry Knox’s legendary 1775 journey.

Event Details

Niles will retrace Knox’s effort to transport 56 cannons from Fort Ticonderoga through Warren, Washington, and Saratoga Counties to Dorchester Heights—a feat that forced the British evacuation of Boston. Drawing from primary sources, Niles will illuminate the challenges and triumphs of this remarkable expedition.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, accompanied by soprano vocalist, Vedrana Kalas, featuring the music of Handel, Arne and other composers popular in 1770s colonial America. These harmonious delights will be punctuated by dramatic readings from diaries and letters that help tell the story of Henry Knox’s “Noble Train of Artillery,” delivered by living historians in 18th century attire.

The Musicians of Ma’alwyck are celebrating their 25th anniversary of bringing history to life through music. The musicians in residence at the Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, they have performed in and produced music featured in short films, on two albums, and in collaboration with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Glimmerglass Festival, Proctors Collaborative among others.
Vedrana Kalas recently performed as the soprano soloist accompanying the NYC Ballet and Orchestra in “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at SPAC. A native of war torn Bosnia, Ms. Kalas emigrated as a teenager with her family to America. She graduated with honors from the esteemed Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.

Experience the 250th anniversary of Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery as it makes it way from Albany into Rensselaer County. Witness the ceremonial passing of a linstock as the procession makes way from the bridge down to Crailo’s Riverside Park where the Second Albany Militia will fire a cannon over the Hudson River in commemoration of this historic Revolutionary event. A replica sled will be on view as well as interpretation of how the artillery was moved from Crown Point on Lake Champlain to Dorchester Heights in Massachusetts, resulting in a robust evacuation of the British, ending the Siege of Boston in March of 1776.

Step back to the winter of 1775 and witness history come alive at the Knox Arrival Reenactment at Lake George Battlefield Park Alliance. A re-enactor portraying Henry Knox will arrive at the head of Lake George on a replica bateau and be taken by a horse & cart to Fort George, where Knox actually stayed in 1775.

Event Details

The program begins at 3:00 PM in Lake George Battlefield Park and will feature 18th Century re-enactors demonstrating period military drills, and fife and drum music.

From the lake, Knox will be transported by horse and cart to Fort George, mirroring the journey he undertook during the original campaign. This living history event offers visitors a rare chance to experience the sights, sounds, and spirit of the era, providing insight into the extraordinary logistical efforts and determination that defined the Noble Train of Artillery.

Celebrate a pivotal moment in American history at Fort Ticonderoga’s Noble Train 250th Celebration. This immersive event retraces the first leg of Henry Knox’s legendary Noble Train of Artillery, when horses and oxen hauled vital cannon from Fort Ticonderoga to Lake George during the winter of 1775–76.

Visitors will witness a spectacular commemorative parade through the village of Ticonderoga, showcasing sleds, carts, and wagons in action. Costumed teamsters and soldiers will demonstrate the loading of artillery onto vessels, offering a vivid glimpse into the incredible logistical feat that helped shape the Revolutionary War.

This family-friendly celebration brings history to life, highlighting bravery, ingenuity, and the teamwork that made the Noble Train of Artillery an enduring symbol of American perseverance.
