Join the Old Saratoga Historical Association for a community reading of the Declaration of Independence on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 at 6PM, held at Town of Saratoga Town Hall, 12 Spring St, Schuylerville, NY.

This free public event is open to all.

Join SNHP and Saratoga250 for a community reading of the Declaration of Independence, corresponding with the date when news of the document reached this region.  Local accounts report that it was “received with applause and satisfaction.”

To commemorate the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence on July 8, 1776, ‘Sharing the Spirit of America’ is the simultaneous reading of the Declaration of Independence across the country (and around the world) 250-years later, ‘together’ at the ‘same’ time. Please join us at the Veteran’s Memorial outside the Saratoga County Clerk’s Office for this event.

Please be advised that there will be cannon firing at approximately 6:15pm and 6:20pm as part of the ceremony.

Parking: McMaster Street will be closed for the event. Please use the Saratoga County parking lots outlined in red for off-street parking.

  Perfect for photo ops on America’s 250th, the replica 1777 era artillery piece is located in the backyard between the clubhouse entry & the scenic Saratoga Race Course paddock. 

• 2nd MA Regiment Historians

  Living historians in authentic Revolutionary era kit will lead a processional before the 4th race in front of the grandstand to recite part of the Declaration of Independence & accessible for discussion & photos near the cannon & throughout the grounds. 

• Fife & Drum

  Historic music accompanying the procession and historians by Musicians of Ma’alwyck performers throughout the afternoon.

• Saratoga 250 Race

  A featured thoroughbred race of the traditional July 4th Racing Festival will be dedicated to Saratoga 250 & the coming 2027 250th anniversary of the momentous American Victory at Saratoga.

• Freeman’s Farm at Saratoga by War Cannon Spirits

Celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence by welcoming ten new citizens of the United States! The event will include a special musical program featuring members of the Racing City Chorus and a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
