Travel back in time and enjoy a tavern-inspired meal with a cast of living historians portraying varied perspectives of coming conflict. Featuring traditional recipes and historic ambiance at Brookside Museum, partake in a delightful three course meal (menu below) accompanied by 18th-century guests and engage them as they discuss their lives and the events of the day.

Join us for an immersive evening of food, music, and storytelling in the historic Brookside Museum Long Room.

Co-produced by Saratoga County History Center and The Campaign for Saratoga 250, net proceeds will benefit our nonprofit efforts to preserve Saratoga’s heritage.

This talk examines how Continental soldiers often wore civilian clothing during the early Revolutionary War years (1775–1777), exploring the styles, materials, and regional influences of these garments, and how they reflected the soldiers’ backgrounds and the logistical challenges of outfitting an army in its infancy.

Washington County will host a Knox commemorative parade, beginning at Fort Edward High School, proceeding to the Old Fort House then Fort Miller.  As part of the procession, wreaths will be laid at Knox markers along the route.

Join us for an unforgettable evening with the Musicians of Ma’alwyck, accompanied by soprano vocalist, Vedrana Kalas, featuring the music of Handel, Arne and other composers popular in 1770s colonial America. These harmonious delights will be punctuated by dramatic readings from diaries and letters that help tell the story of Henry Knox’s “Noble Train of Artillery,” delivered by living historians in 18th century attire. 
Free general admission tickets are required, complements of the Campaign for Saratoga 250’s generous Founding Donors and Saratoga County’s 250th Commission. Goodwill donations are welcomed!

    Dramatic readings of historic passages by living historians from letters and diaries associated with the Knox “Noble Train of Artillery.”

    The Musicians of Ma’alwyck are celebrating their 25th anniversary of bringing history to life through music. The musicians in residence at the Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site, they have performed in and produced music featured in short films, on two albums, and in collaboration with the Albany Symphony Orchestra, Glimmerglass Festival, Proctors Collaborative among others. 

    Vedrana Kalas recently performed as the soprano soloist accompanying the NYC Ballet and Orchestra in “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at SPAC. A native of war torn Bosnia, Ms. Kalas emigrated as a teenager with her family to America. She graduated with honors from the esteemed Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam.

Don’t miss the 250th anniversary of the daunting, courageous, and successful winter 1775 journey of Henry Knox & patriots who delivered vital cannon artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to the high ground over Boston Harbor forcing the British evacuation. Join us after the linstock handoff from Washington County for historical interpreters, artillery demonstrations, food, and wagon rides at nearby Fort Hardy Park!

  • Hear from the Lexington Minutemen about recent activity in the Massachusetts Colony and their need for Knox’s artillery to break the Siege of Boston
  • Chat with a printer about how books were created in Knox’s day and the skills needed to run a printing press.
  • Join the Daughters of the American Revolution in recognizing the incredible WSWHE BOCES students who built the Knox replica sleds (2:30pm in the Saratoga250 Tent)
  • End the day with a lantern lit walk through Fort Hardy Park, culminating with a twilight artillery salute in honor of Henry Knox and the Friends of Fort Hardy Park’s celebration, Starlight in the Park (lantern walk begins at 4pm, gather near the Saratoga250 tent and bring your own lantern to join in the procession)

Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery Procession including horses pulling replica cannon on sleds along with reenactors and community members, will step off from the Waterford Senior Center at 9am and arrive shortly thereafter at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Waterford for a short ceremony and wreath laying at Knox Trail Marker #18. It will then proceed to Peebles Island State Park for a brief stop near the remaining earthworks created during the 1777 Saratoga Campaign before continuing on to Van Schaick Mansion.

Knox’s Noble Train of Artillery Procession will step off from the Waterford Senior Center and arrive shortly thereafter at Soldiers and Sailors Park in Waterford for a short ceremony and wreath laying at Knox Marker # 18 before continuing on to Peebles Island State Historic Park.

Saratoga 250 will officially handoff the ceremonial linstock to Albany 250 at the Van Schaick Mansion. The mansion will have speakers, refreshments, tours of the house, and a commemorative bench dedication in honor of Henry Knox by the Sons of the American Revolution.

Albany County will receive the Noble Knox Train at the Historic Van Schaick Mansion in Cohoes, New York. Join us for the ceremonial linstock hand off from Saratoga 250 to Albany 250 in honor of the 250th anniversary to commemorate the formidable, fearless, and successful winter of the 1775 journey of Henry Knox and the patriots who delivered the vital cannon artillery from Fort Ticonderoga to the high ground above Boston Harbor that caused the British to leave the city. SEE PROGRAM DETAILS BELOW!

Event Details

  • Immediately following the handoff ceremony, guests will be invited to interact with the regimental interpreters accompanying the replica sleds and view the draft animals.
  • The 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment will have musket and cannon firing demonstrations throughout the day.
  • A roaring bonfire will provide warmth in between the outdoor activities.
  • Costumed reenactors will also greet guests and invite them to tour the 1st floor of the historic Van Schaick Manion that will be decorated for Christmas.
  • Guests will enjoy 18th century refreshments and colonial music while having the opportunity to view the New York State Panel of the America’s Tapestry Project that is being stitched by local members of the Embroiderer’s Guild. The New York State Panel is one of 13 panels representing the original 13 colonies that are being created to celebrate America 250.
  • At Noon a Dedication ceremony will be held to recognize The Empire State Society SAR whose organization is gifting a granite bench to the Van Schaick Mansion in honor of the arrival of the Knox Train to Celebrate 250 years of American Freedom.
  • The program will close with a cannonade salute by the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment.

All events are free to the public.

Through guided tours, witness Knox’s stay at the mansion, his impact on the household, and Philip Schuyler’s role as host and facilitator of the wagon train’s vital passage to Albany and over the Hudson River.

The regional collaboration between states, counties, and historic sites will include a “cannon relay,” handing off a replica Revolutionary era cannon from place to place on its path from Fort Ticonderoga to the high ground over Boston Harbor in the winter of 1775-1776. Saratoga County will receive the cannon approximately 1:00pm on December 13th at Dix Bridge in Hudson Crossing Park.

Powers will discuss AVAR’s 2021 archaeological project at Saratoga National Historical Park, where veterans and researchers studied the site of the Second Battle of Saratoga, fought Oct. 7, 1777. Their discoveries in Barber’s Wheatfield shed new light on the battlefield’s tactics and terrain that led to the surrender of British General John Burgoyne—a defining moment in America’s fight for independence.

Presented by Saratoga County 250th American Revolution Commission.
