George Washington expressed thanks to Providence throughout his life. This recently revealed letter from October 18, 1777 demonstrated deep gratitude upon learning of British General Burgoyne’s surrender at Saratoga. Amidst the tumult of 1777, including British capture of Philadelphia, General Washington’s renewed optimism for American Liberty is evident. It shows why Saratoga is still known as America’s Turning Point nearly 250 years after.
