Caregiving is a role that has frequently been performed by women throughout history. Explore the many ways in which women cared for family, friends, neighbors, and soldiers throughout the late eighteenth century. Whether assisting neighbors through childbirth or serving as regimentally assigned nurses on army campaigns, women have fulfilled their community’s needs. Explore the tools and techniques of healers and learn about the evolution of these roles over the past 250 years with historical interpreter Anne Clothier.

 Learn about the casualties of the battles. Discussion of various wounds and their treatment will center around actual cases from the Saratoga Campaign. View period surgical instruments and learn about medicine used by surgeons on both sides of the conflict.

She has been a reenactor since 1999 beginning as a camp follower with the 10th MA Regiment and now most commonly portraying our nation’s 1st, First Lady during the Revolutionary War Days. This group of volunteer re-enactors isRevolutionary War reenactors standing around a cannon comprised of historians, educators, veterans and others seeking to honor the patriots of the Revolutionary War’s original regiment and educate the public. Also called Bauman’s Company, this group was authorized on October 28, 1775, in New York. The group was assigned to different locations throughout the war, but in 1777 Bauman’s Company was combined with 2 other regiments to create Col. Lamb’s Artillery Regiment. In August of 1779 four artillery regiments were numbered and Lamb’s regiment became the 2nd Continental. Program: The 2nd Continental will be camped on the Battlefield throughout the weekend and will be providing artillery demonstrations.

Revolutionary War reenactors marching through a fieldThis group of volunteer re-enactors portrays soldiers of the Major’s company of the 24th as they would have appeared during the Northern Campaign of 1777, including the Battles of Saratoga. The 24th is one of England’s most famous regiments, and permission was received in 1995 by the Royal Regiment of Wales to portray them in North America. Program: The 24th will be camped on the Battlefield throughout the weekend and will interact with the public regarding the British army during the Saratoga Campaign.
